Wine Review: Tres Picos Garnacha

tres_picosTechnicals: 100% Grenache from 35 – 60 year old vines from the Campo de Borja region of Rioja, Spain (southeast Rioja).

Interesting Fact: Garnacha (or Grenache as it is known in Spain) is thought to originated in the northern Spanish area it thrives in now. It is one of the most widely grown grape varieties in the world, and has a number of clones – one of the most unique is Garnacha Peluda, “Hairy Grenache,” which is only found in the Campo de Borja region.

First impression: A very bright wine with an overwhelming aroma of red cherries.

Taste: Intense cherry but more complex than the initial aroma. Flavors of vanilla, blackberry, plum, spice, balanced with oak and leather.

Special Notes: This is one of my favorite everyday, work-house wines. Very easily found under $15 per bottle, your house wine can equally impress and save.
